Split PDF Files Online
Extract exact page ranges, split all pages into separate 1-page documents, or create custom document bundles with zero quality loss and complete browser privacy.
Three Flexible Ways to Split Your PDF
Choose the splitting method tailored to your document structure.
Extract Specific Ranges
Specify individual pages or comma-separated ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. Only the selected pages will be extracted and compiled into one clean, unified output PDF file. Perfect for extracting an executive summary, contract clause, or key receipt.
Split Every Page
Convert every single page of your multi-page document into an independent, individual 1-page PDF. To save time and prevent repetitive download prompts, all generated files are neatly packaged into a single compressed ZIP archive for one-click downloading.
Custom Document Bundles
Divide a comprehensive document into structured chapters or sections (e.g. Section A: pages 1-10; Section B: pages 11-25) in one seamless session. Each defined range produces a dedicated PDF file, all bundled together inside a ZIP archive.
Practical Page-Range Syntax & Validation Rules
Understand the exact syntax rules used to parse and validate your page extraction input.
| Syntax Example | Extracted Pages | Validation Status | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
1-3 | Pages 1, 2, 3 | Valid | Hyphenated sequential range. Extracts all pages from start to end inclusive. |
2,4,6 | Pages 2, 4, 6 | Valid | Comma-separated single pages. Pulls non-consecutive pages into one PDF. |
1-5,8-10 | Pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 | Valid | Combined mixed ranges. Omits pages 6 and 7 while keeping two distinct groups. |
10-2 | None | Invalid | Reversed range. Range start must be less than or equal to range end. |
0, 1-3 | None | Invalid | PDFs use 1-based page indexing. Page 0 does not exist. |
1-50 (on a 20-page PDF) | None | Invalid | Out of bounds. Range end exceeds the total page count of the uploaded file. |
1-Based Numbering System
Our tool strictly adheres to human-readable 1-based numbering. The cover or first page is Page 1. Do not use zero-indexed computer notation.
Whitespace & Separator Handling
Spaces around commas and hyphens are cleaned automatically. Both 1-3, 5, 8 and 1-3,5,8 parse identically. Non-numeric characters and semicolons will be flagged.
Single File vs. ZIP Download
Extracting a single range generates a direct .pdf download. Multi-file splits and 'Split Every Page' automatically generate a clean, compressed .zip archive.
Supported Specs & Limits
- File Size Limit: Up to 25 MB per PDF upload.
- Format Standard: Supports PDF specifications 1.0 through 2.0.

Practical Everyday Use Cases
These realistic use cases illustrate common applications of PDF splitting:
Extracting Statement Pages
Pull only the summary and signature pages from a 60-page bank statement or loan agreement to submit to your accountant or mortgage broker without exposing unnecessary transaction details.
Dissecting Bulk Invoice Scans
When high-speed office scanners output a 100-page batch scan of diverse customer invoices, use 'Split Every Page' to automatically produce individual files for your filing system.
Sharing Selected Chapters
Extract specific chapters, study guides, or technical whitepaper sections from large manuals to email to colleagues or students without exceeding email attachment limits.
* Note: Use cases reflect typical operational workflows and do not constitute a guarantee of compatibility for corrupted or non-standard documents.
Troubleshooting Splitting Difficulties
Invalid Range Syntax: Verify that your ranges are formatted with numbers and hyphens (e.g., 1-4, 7, 9-12). Descending ranges like 5-2 or non-numeric characters will trigger a syntax warning.
Encrypted or Locked PDFs: If your document is password protected, the encryption must be cleared before extracting pages. Open the file in your preferred PDF reader, unlock it with your password, and save an unencrypted copy first.
Corrupted PDF Streams: If a document has broken cross-reference tables or an incomplete trailer dictionary, open the file in your local PDF viewer and re-save it to rebuild the document structure.
