Frequently Asked Questions
Clear, honest answers about our browser-first architecture, supported file limits, privacy guarantees, and document handling.
Unlike legacy online PDF converters that upload your confidential files to remote third-party cloud servers, our application executes genuine PDF manipulation locally inside your web browser using pure JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your bank statements, contracts, tax returns, and medical records never leave your device.
The Split PDF tool supports three distinct processing modes:
- Extract Pages (Single Range): Slices a continuous or selective page range (e.g.
2-5or1, 3, 5) into a single unified output PDF. - Split Every Page: Explodes a multi-page document into individual single-page PDF files, ready for one-click ZIP download.
- Custom Ranges: Allows you to define multiple distinct page groupings (e.g.
1-3, 4-6, 7-10) packaged into separate document files.
Our client-side inspection engine verifies the binary magic bytes (%PDF-) and structural cross-reference table before processing begins. If an uploaded file is truncated, damaged, or unreadable, the tool flags the specific file with an informative error message so you can re-export or repair the document before trying again.
For cryptographic and security integrity, encrypted or password-protected PDF files must have their password restriction removed before merging or splitting. Standard browser-based PDF engines cannot alter encrypted object graphs without the owner master key. Please unlock your document in your PDF reader before uploading.
After merging files or extracting a single page range, a direct .pdf file is generated in browser memory as an instant Blob download. When splitting every page or creating multiple custom range files, all generated PDFs are automatically packaged into a convenient .zip archive using fast in-memory compression.
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) with Google Consent Mode v2 strictly to measure aggregate traffic counts, page performance, and tool completion rates (e.g. whether a merge operation completed successfully).
We never collect, transmit, or inspect document contents, extracted text, original filenames, personal email addresses, or contact form messages. In jurisdictions where permitted by law, aggregate traffic measurement is enabled by default without intrusive popups. In jurisdictions requiring prior opt-in (such as the EU/EEA and UK), analytics remains disabled until you choose to opt in.
You can review or modify your preferences at any time by clicking the Cookie & Analytics Settings link located in the footer of every page. The settings dialog allows you to inspect essential storage, toggle Google Analytics on or off, or select "Reject All" to halt analytics immediately.
